City Stars

One of the hottest spots in all of Cairo is City Stars, a mega-mall in Medinat Nasr. This was one of the first places I went to in Cairo when I got here in September, and I've gone back only two or three times since then. As a New Jerseyan, I have no desire to go to another mall. But this is more than just another mall--this 750,000 sqm monstrosity includes hotels, two movie theaters, hundreds of shops (some of them repeating), and a theme park. A theme park with a roller coaster.

I recently went to the mall for a burrito (it's very hard to find good Mexican food in Cairo) and got lost for most of the time I was there and the directory doesn't help at all. The mall has more than just floors, it has phases and atriums. I have no idea what that means. It is a silly place.

City Stars in a nutshell: Two Timberland stores and one of them is located in Phase 2, 4th Floor, Shop No. 4205. They have so much space, they've run out of stores.

What do you get when you put Jew and Oops together?

One of the most bizarre parts of City Stars is its elevators. You press the button for what floor you want before you get on it. This gets very confusing when many people have hit all the buttons and you have no idea if the elevator you're about to take is going up or down.

To the point.

Also to the point. The name of the place is actually El Chico Mexican Restaurant but no one knows that. One of the only places in Cairo to get a burrito and the only reason to go to City Stars in the first place.

  1. The best mini vacations are ones, where you may not have to do elaborate planning; neither will these vacations need you to spend a fortune on them.
